Cure for Heart Disease: Is There a Cure?

Is There A Cure For Heart Disease?

Many people may be asking if there is a cure for heart disease.  However, unfortunately at this time in science there is no cure for heart disease or heart problems.  There are however preventative measures you can take to lower your risk.

Number one is get that body moving!  Having a healthy body weight can go a long way in preventing heart disease.  About 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. right now are completely sedentary.  The recommended “dose” of exercise by doctors is to aim for at least 30 minutes daily, 6 days per week.  If you can do more, even better.  Also, exercise is a bit like adding money to the bank.  Every little bit helps, and can add up, so don’t feel like you have to do 30 minutes all at once! One good way to measure heart rate is with a heart rate monitor. There are a variety available on the market that will fit many budgets.

While there is no cure for heart disease, another important preventative measure is to eat a well balanced diet and avoid saturated fats, excess sugars, and an overdose of sodium.  Lots of whole grains, fruits and veggies, and some low fat protein like turkey or chicken or pork.  Also, the more raw foods you consume, the better your health will be as well, as cooking can really deplete the nutrient value in some foods.

Finally, control your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, whether it’s through diet or medications.  High blood pressure is a very serious risk factor, and since there is no cure for heart disease, controlling your BP can go a long way towards preventing further heart disease or damage.

Also blood cholesterol levels can be managed as well through diet and exercise.  Get a blood test and keep tabs on your cholesterol levels.  It’s not a cure for heart disease, but keeping blood cholesterol levels low is a great and proven preventative measure.
