Chronic Heart Disease: Risk Factors

Chronic heart disease is a leading cause of death all over the world.  The term is used interchangeably with all conditions that affect the heart, including coronary heart disease, congenital heart disease, etc.  Whatever the condition, all affect your heart and can cause sudden death by a heart attack or heart failure.

Some risk factors of chronic heart disease that you can take steps TODAY to correct, are things like smoking.  Smoking has been proven over and over to contribute to both lung cancer and heart disease.  There are so many available options out there now to help you kick the habit that there is really no excuse to continue putting your health at risk.
Physical inactivity also plays a big role in chronic heart disease.  Your body and heart needs exercise in order to pump blood and oxygen properly throughout your body, and to keep your heart muscle strong.  If you are in active all day long, then you are at risk for chronic heart disease, among other things.

High blood pressure and cholesterol are also large contributors to chronic heart disease.  It is important that if you are unable to manage these conditions through diet alone, then take your medications to keep them under control.  Don’t play super man and think that you don’t need them, as that is a quick road to heart attack and a honeymoon suite in the ER.

Other contributors to chronic heart disease include being over weight, diabetes, and misusing alcohol.  While a glass of wine or beer each day has been shown to have some health benefits over your heart, excessive drinking does not help your heart at all, and increases your likelihood of chronic heart disease and other health problems.  Not to mention alcoholism can also kill you via liver damage and poor judgment!

Chronic heart disease and all the health issues that fall under that term are extremely dangerous, and rapidly rising.  Take steps today to reduce your risk, so that you can live a long and prosperous life.
